Day 9 - Guangzhou

Today, after a sleep in, we went, with Linda from Canada, to Yue Xiu Park - a breathtaking park on almost 100 hectares of land in the middle of Guangzhou City - a small piece of paradise among the bustling city. To get there we caught the metro train - including transfers! We were very proud to get there with our new friend Linda, and even prouder when we made it back on our own!!

At Yue Xiu park we wandered and wandered and wandered - there were beautiful lakes, swimming pools, amusement parks, stadiums, and stunning wilderness: in other words - this place was huge! We also visited a museum in the Zhenhai Tower, art gallery and other cultural landmarks such as the monument to Dr Sun Yat-Sen and many rock carvings such as the statue of 5 Rams. Lunch was a $2 smorgasboard - made up of typical Chinese greasy food!

After getting caught in a thunderstorm on the way home, we made it back to the hostel soaking wet but in one piece!

We had our first dinner in a completely chinese restaurant, with no english menu and no english speakers! Liv tried her best, and once asking one question in Chinese successfully was spoken to in very fast Chinese the rest of the night - however we got a delicious vegetarian meal, enough to feed 5 people for under $10 for the both of us - Bargain!

Off to Foshan, a town close by tomorrow - we'll let you know how it goes!
